>>55330592Because its a $60 product and a time investment.
a million other things in life are competing for my time and money, like a movie or a vacation. I consider games an experience. Thats what I'm paying for.
Plus as much as its a world I love and want to get lost in, PKMN is a corporate product. PKMN company international is gonna be looking at sales figures for every game very closely when deciding the future of the brand.
I dont mean to sound like a marketer. But realistically Legends Arceus is competing for switch owners time and money. I know a lot of people that skipped Arceus and waited for SV. I skipped LGPE and BDSP because they weren't novel experiences but rather inferior remakes, (opinion, but yea). I would've had fun playing them for free on a hacked switch or something but I made the decision to save time and money by not playing them. Pokemon also competes with Zelda on Switch, and Palworld and DragonWarrior monsters as monster games.
Take a kid who only gets one game for christmas as an example.
take it from Masuda himself in that interview "pkmn games today have to compete with smartphones and youtube so we have to make sure kids dont get discouraged" I'm paraphrasing his quote but the makers themselves know we have a choice when it comes to these products.
>>55330599you are wrong because what you described is pokemon battle revolution for the wii.
battle revolution sales: 1.202 million
Legends Arceus sales : "As of March 31, 2023, the game has sold 14.83 million copies.[65] Nintendo reported that the game sold 6.5 million copies worldwide within a week of release, outpacing other Nintendo Switch Pokémon titles such as Sword and Shield and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.[66][67]"
you are an OVERWHELMINGLY small portion of the fanbase. I'd wager 90% of players never even try an online battle. Even if they did, PKMN showdown exists for free, dude
