Alola did it alright but Galar's were subpar and these really aren't as creative as they should have been. Variants have become a crutch for Gamefreak to use 20% of the dex for regurgitated designs rather than new ones.
Really what i want for the next gen is entirely new lines with no strings attached to the old, but I think the fanbase is too addicted to nostalgia to want the same.
