Explains him not mentioning shit about version exclusives, he literally couldn't have known as he was only playing one version. He also clearly chose Sobble as his starter considering he knows Sobble's evolutions properly while vaguely remembers the others used by the rivals.
By the 4th gym, he had his Sobble fully evolved, saw Hop's Scorbunny's final evolution, and at least saw the second form (maybe the third) of Bede's Grookey.
The biggest curiousity around what he knew from the playtesting is the Gigas. It's possible he just encountered them in random raids, but that seems unlikely since he got 3 of them. It's possible it went
