It's actually really traumatic for most pokemon to be ripped away from their trainers who become their foster parent in a way as well as the pokemons friend. Being ripped away from warmth and constant food which pokemon are shown to prefer. Some pokemon who live in the water are able to exist on land thanks to pokeballs and would have a completely new part of their world stolen from them by being put back in water.
Pokemon and people are shown as partners with pokemon being even more domesticated then some dog breeds.
