>>35834693Oh adding to this, avoid "linear" town design. This town has a lot of stupid wasted space that directs you down a pointlessly winding path to do anything in it.the placement of the pokemon center and the gym more or less cement 80% of this map as completely worthless space.
I've made a mockup of how one could take this same layout and at least salvage it by moving a few elements around. If you wanted to take things a step further and completely remove any semblance of linearity remaining in its design, the one-way ledge I placed on the right could just be made into a two-way.
>>35834772I wouldn't call Moraga Town Saffron style, though Saffron has its own similar problems upon further consideration. One really identifiable problem with Saffron City is that the city is a big square with several attractions, but the Pokemon Center isn't even slightly centrally-located, so no matter what you're going to do a lot of walking along straight paths past empty buildings. A good rule of thumb I'd say would be to, even in a "big city" map, avoid having reaching a point where you have twice as many doorless decorative buildings (or more) as you have actual visitable ones. If you can, take that a step further and make sure at a bare minimum of least 75% of the visitable buildings have literally anything of value inside (read: not just fluff npc text).
