>>29203221This might be somewhat less true for Gamfreak since Pokémon is a pretty safe series, but gamers being cheap has hurt the gaming industry in a palpable way.
Devs spend millions of dollars making a cutting edge piece of amazing tech for entitled gamers to say "eh it's worth $3 on steam". The price of AAA games has stayed the same for several generations now when dev cost has risen exponentially. Gamers want better graphics, higher framerates, bigger maps etc but refuse to pay more than they did 10 years ago.
So then you get shitty tactics like micro transactions, paid DLC, and 80 hr work weeks since publishers don't want to pay for extra development time. That leads to delays, day 1 patches, and cut corners leaving things broken. Followed by mass layoffs as companies desperately try to make their cash back.
So people can say "piracy doesn't really effect anything" but let's be honest, that money has to come from somewhere. Something's gotta give. And gamers feel the shit end of it all the time.
