>>44179135I think it might have to do with Contestshipping being the only mutual ship closest to canon but also left off on a cliffhanger(it is a kids show after all) so people are still "invested" in May's character. No offense to any Mayfans out there(except for Famon, ALL offense to him) but if not for Contestshipping, May would have eventually been forgotten under the huge and growing roster of PokeGirls, being only remembered by her supposedly "annoying" brother and for being the "first contest" girl.
P.S. Pokeshipping isn't left off anywhere, in the end Ash doesn't care at all about Misty anymore whereas in Contestshipping the relationship between May and Drew is more ambiguous
