All right /vp/, I'll tell you all I know about this screenshot.
I won't pretend I work for the company. I guess the easiest way to explain it is that I know someone... I also won't pretend I haven't been to /vp/ before either... I know you get a hell of a lot of these, and since I have no proof, I understand if you don't believe me.
The piece of footage is from an alpha Wii-U title set to release late 2014/early 2015 (though delays are possible). The game will be announced properly, with a trailer at E3 2014...though it is entirely possible you may see more of it beforehand. Along with Smash, Zelda U and 3D World, it is pinned to be one of Nintendo's big system sellers. However, don't expect to hear much until after the worldwide release of X and Y, as Nintendo don't want to pull too much attention away from these games.
In the broadest sense, this is a new, HD, 3D RPG game for the Wii-U. It is NOT supposed to be a sequel to Colloseum/XD or the Stadium games, though you will see similarities. Please note, I have not SEEN any more of the game than you have, so any questions regarding visuals I cannot answer.
The game will have a new (to be determined) title. It will NOT have a similar formula to the handheld games, but it will be deeper and more rewarding experience than either of the Gamecube games were. It will not have gym battles or an elite four. The biggest pull of this game will be the updated wild Pokémon encounters and the way the party Pokémon are handled. It will feature "dungeons" similar to many RPGs out there and "boss fights" with a Pokémon twist.
The world will be more open, and there are plans to show all of the Pokémon on the field. I am constantly reminded of Ni no Kuni when we talk about it.
Obviously, there are plans for it to connect with 6th gen games too, so it will double as a "stadium" game.
This isn't some crappy spinoff. The company behind this is putting a lot of effort into making this a brand new Pokémon experience.
