I am that anon, thank you for rememering my pain.
I updated my enclosure btw, please find attached. This way you can continually knock out eggs and by the time you reach the end the first pen has laid another egg again and the cycle continues.
Currently on a 200+ drought with Totodile, just the way shiny odds work I guess you get lucky like >>48514578 or you spend a day doing it.

>Set up
My new set up is 10 breeding pairs arranged in a large rectangle. The size/number of pairs means that by going in a clockwise/counterclockwise direction and attacking all the eggs by the time you have reached the beginning another egg should be in the initial pen, and so on. My original set up had me checking back every few minutes but this allows you to shiny hunt with minimum stoppages.
>Breeding Mechanics
A male and a female will breed approximately once every 2 minutes, from my experience a breeding couple can only lay 2 eggs before they will stop so you will have to check on this set up once every 5 or so minutes. I have now tested the theory that Pokemon will only lay eggs in environments they like, so make sure to replace the tiles accordingly. In the image attached you can see I have placed two water tiles for the Totodiles I am breeding. For things like water it is worth keeping a supply nearby so you can easily dig canals.
>Checking eggs
Now, dark types have a field move called 'attack'. This field move allows you to attack eggs, checking their genders and shiny status. If an egg is not a shiny or the desired gender knock it out instead of hatching it.
An egg will give the same shiny animation as any other pokemon. When acquiring breeding pairs this allows you to confirm genders, so you don't end up hatching 11 females in a row etc.
Finally once you're finished your hunt, you can use 'attack' to remove all of your excess breeders from the map, this means you don't need to have 8 of each pokemon wandering around your map aimlessly.

This will be my final version of the breeding guide as I think I've found the best possible method for this release, in future if this changes and I'm still playing Wilds I may write a new version.
