Well, while everyone's talkin' a load of gobshite I'm just going to throw my opinion out there.
As a Primfag, I have to agree on it having one of the lesser fanbases you can find. Not for any of these "invading" business - but because a lot of them are uncomfortable to be around and it's a majority who fit into this category at least on /vp/.
As to why this is, there's three major elements to it, first of which are the waifufags/lewdists. Everybody's got things they want to fuck and stuff they wish to do while fucking but ye dinnae need to parade it around in every thread you go to. You want a siren sea lion gf - good for you - now move on.
This leads into the fact that almost every Primfag has to get in a word about which gender they prefer their mermaids to be; whether because they're afraid of being associated with Male Primarina, want to fight back against fem.ale-only fags or whatever other reason. It's almost impossible to talk about the thing without a gender thrown in randomly.
That then attracts shitposters or assaulters who start perpetuating "MUH 87.5", "FEM.ALE ONLY" and "LOL TRANNYSEAL" memes. As you can guess, they become defensive. While understandable, a lot of them are just far too defensive and you end up not wanting to be around them because they either start to go on a reverse offensive or come off whiny and unable to take anything negative directed at them.
In the end, nobody from any side really ends up happy with the events that transpired and while the anti-Primfags are certainly no better, the Primfags ourselves are most definitely not at fault. Only way to stop it all is for both sides to just shut up and get on with your lives, regardless of what you like.
