While the thread's premise will never be 100% accurate, I am fairly confident no one would really care about Dondozo, even with its funny doubles gimmick, if it wasn't actually really good. You'd just get people asking why it wasn't a Whiscash evo, and Whiscash is already a Pokemon few people give a shit about. Yes it technically has anthropomorphized qualities to make it more memorable, and those qualities are actually pretty well integrated into the design without making it a jobmon, but it probably wouldn't be enough.
