My first & only encounter with a shiny was 13 years ago, as soon as I got GBC Pokemon Gold.
I ran into a shiny Spinarak on route 30. This was my first time ever seeing this Pokemon, nor did I know shinys were a new feature in the series. I assumed the initial flashing some special ability & didn't put too much effort in catching it.
I've never encountered a shiny since. I never put the effort into finding one because I've only pulled about a single playthrough for each game in the series.
