I usually steer clear of mon that don't look like plausible creatures, but I always thought it had a cool sprite in Red/Blue, and after getting humiliated by it at Misty's gym, I later caught my own in Seafoam Islands. It became one of the star players in my team against the Elite 4, and a good compliment to my Zard. It was years later when I became aware of how Starmie was regarded as one of the best competitive water types.
