there's no date on this, so I'll have to assume it's 1996-1999, the same year(s) that the gen 1 games came out. But it's widely accepted/agreed upon that pokedollars are equivalent to the japanese yen. ¥9,999 in 1996 is roughly ¥10,385 in todays money, which is about $67.
..so that kinda actually is a low price for a super special digital monster.
