The markings on the belly are also a blend of a few themes; they kind of look like hearts for the femme fatale theme, and they match up with one of the main purposes of tripoding: threatening attackers. Many animals scare off attackers with brightly colored stomachs. One such animal is the Japanese fire bellied newt. I think you can make the connection there.
