Female characters are almost always, without a doubt, the favorite characters of almost every fanbase unless that media centers around men or fails to give the female character as much personality as the male. If the male doesn't outshine the female character by a lot, the female gets the most attention by default.
Females are drawn more in both sfw/nsfw fanart. Female characters are more common in character-centered games than men. Females are drawn more aesthetically, and are the primary focus of games a lot of the time, and it's all because of male sex drive/the cute charm that women have over men.
If you compare men and women in rl, it's very clear which has the best aesthetic. This just rubs off on everything, unfortunately. And Pokemon has been unforgivably lazy recently, hence why they're forgetting about a large portion of their fanbase and only catering towards their own desires.
It's very unfortunate and I fucking loathe how equal attention isn't given, but there's nothing we can do. We got N, people freaked out and drew tons of fanart of him, but it wasn't enough. Fuck this Gen.
