What's also weird is that Terastal energy has been continuously leaking out of the crater and getting stronger and stronger over time. Terastallized Pokémon have only started showing up deep in the crater 140 years ago - that's 60 years after Heath's expedition. Removing those Pokémon from the crater caused the Terastallization to fade.
Then in recent times (I don't think the game ever specifies), Terastallized Pokémon started showing up in the wild, outside of the crater. Same with Tera Raid crystals. Those have even been gaining energy throughout the events of the game, Jacq says so since 6* raids appear after you defeat a certain amount of raids.
So if Tera energy was significantly weaker 200 years ago, would it still be reasonable to assume that Terapagos was not only awake, but also fully powered?
This is only tangentially related, but I've noticed a long time ago already that the crystals inside Tera orbs look almost exactly a dormant Terapagos. Could they be the (crystalized) remains/shells of Terapagos that died in the seismic shifts? We know the professor made the orbs, and they were probably the only person with access to the Underdepths, where they found that several Terapagos used to lived there but went extinct, bar one individual. That would also explain why Terapagos reacts so strongly to Tera Orbs - it could be remaining energies from another Terapagos' shell that amplifies the energies of the last living Terapagos.
