>>41410218Gen IV was the start of the nu-mon designs, but it was far from extremely bad at it, and looking back on it now it's designs were far more complex than what we have now. It's biggest sins were the evos it introduced that were just "It gets fatter".
Gen V suffered the most from it's attempt at a new dex, it had some great inspired ones, and others that were clearly forced. It shouldn't have tried to mimic earlier gens with its designs and created redundant Pokemon. Also it really kicked off the cartoony/toylike design trends. It definitely has a lot of gems in its rough though. Beheeyem was a solid design that unfortunately got swept away due to awkward in game placement, and being a mono-Psychic in a gen full of them. Though fuck them for introducing the Genies. People give the gen shit over the garbage and ice cream, which the ice cream I understand, but the genies were terrible recolors that shouldn't have happened at all. Ugly designs.
I think, if I had to pick an overall objectively best and most "pokemon" gen designs, I would have to say Gen 3. It struck a nice balance between fantastical designs, and good anatomy. Gen 2 is my personal favorite batch of designs though.
>Anyways, design rant overFor Anons looking for a fresh challenge, have you played with either of the Pokemon Stadiums before? Both are basically expansion packs for the Gen 1+2 games and help promote easy connectivity with and between both gens. They create a real definitive experience and add tons of new challenges and goodies. You should absolutely consider using it the next time you replay Gen 1 or 2, especially if you haven't before.
