Back in gen 7 the canon name of the protagonists was used in pre-release material, with the "game-based names" being used only as alternative (see pic related, Elio was used all the time, but in this case, "Sun" was also used because they needed a second name for the boy). This applies to gen 8 as well, Victor and Gloria were in pre and post-release material, the names seen in trailers and such is just their official, canon name.
