Shortly before you battle after gym 2, though, they join the evil team for clout. They gradually become disgusted with the actual crimes the team commits, and works with you to battle your way through the evil team HQ, before the two of you split up so that you can battle the evil leader with no interference. Can rebattle at their house in the postgame.
