The gist of that story is that it's about a Magic Monkey going around challenging Gods and attaining enlightenment. When the plot of Gen 4 revolves around a journey to become a champion while challenging the legendary Pokémon of the region it makes Infernape all the cooler symbolically if you choose it as a starter.
