While I'm not sure who were the art directors for X/Y and Sun/Moon, and James Turner directed Sword and Shield, Scarlet and Violet has a new art director: Mana Ibe. She designed several Pokémon in the past, including Victini, Herdier, Emolga, Stunfisk, Haxorus, Darumaka, Darmanitan, Frillish, Jellicent and Klefki. Besides some of the "smooth geometric designs" though, I feel that the Pokémon and character designs this Generation are pretty good- some of the 3D modeling could certainly be to blame.
