I think this gen was a step in the right direction because they didn't pussy out. They actually went in and touched up moves, redid oldmon base stats and shoved in another type (which hadn't been done since fucking gold/silver).
They added less pokemon but I honestly think that each added pokemon is of a higher quality than previously. Hell, I'm happy that 90% of them actually look like pokemon.
I actually think that the game was quite challenging, because I've had exp share off and it seems that its been balanced with exp share always being on being standard.
