The PSS was genuinely one of the single best online multiplayer mechanics I've ever seen in a video game and nothing since has even remotely come close. For basically all of Gen 6 it wasn't uncommon at all to see tons of people posting with their 3DS Mii name and Friend Code in their namespace.
Friend Safaris, free GTS, introduction of actual IV breeding, online trades and battles from literally anywhere instead of having to go to a Pokemon Center, Wonder Trade, the list goes on. Gen 6 gets shit on a lot but I'll always have a sweet spot for it despite its many flaws due to just how robust the online was. It's easily the gen I have the most hours sunk into just because of how much I got out of the online.
