While Wailord will be shown as probably very huge, the corresponding Wailmer should not be a clump of pixels next to it so they could make the scaling perfect. The Wailmer alongside the Wailord will appear normal, and to the untrained eye, the Wailmer would appear probably half or 2/3 the size of Wailord, but when comparing heights, they would see that wouldn't be the case.
In terms of the Alola Starters, people are basing their speculation off of the fact that the scaling would have to be perfect, meaning that because Litten's Sprite is so big, the other evolutions must not be too much bigger. This shouldn't be the case, meaning that the evolutions' sprites wouldn't appear perfectly to scale and in different poses, meaning that the leaked designs could indeed fit in the spaces provided. But because nothing is confirmed, the whole argument is ridiculous to begin with.
