I would probably never choose to watch a Pokemon movie by myself (which is to say, without other people to riff on it together) because they're all really formulaic and I've seen it all before in one way or another.
If GameFreak started really developing around the idea of a competitive metagame, within a year neither that nor the rest of the games would be fun anymore.
I'm pretty sure the reason my husbando is a Pokemon is because I have no idea what I would like in someone personality-wise and I can project whatever I think I like onto this creature. I mean sure I definitely like monster dudes but there are plenty of those in fiction who are actual characters.
I don't think I've ever owned a Pokemon trading card.
