You can get a Pokemon known as Machop on the fifth floor of the Goldenrod Department Store if you trade the boy a Drowzee for it, its pretty easy because there is Drowzee right outside of Goldenrod City. The Pokemon has a nickname already and if you train it up to levels 20-22, you can easily beat Whitney.
P.S Go to the underground tunnel to train your Machop there if you want to.
