>>45258277You challenged me to cite the exact budget for Pokemon Sword and Shield a few threads ago, too. Yawnfag or not, it got me curious: What WAS the budget for Pokemon Sword and Shield?
It turns out that trying to find the budgets for video games is nearly impossible. Pokemon Sword and Shield is one of countless games to not have its budget disclosed, and it’s unlikely that it ever will after the backlash. I couldn’t find budgets for even big titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath or the Wild or Super Mario Odyssey. If your argument is “If you can’t give me an exact number, then you’re wrong”, then you may as well ask to see flying pigs. However, we can make a conjecture based on what we do have to work with.
A lone GameFAQs post claims that it cost $23,750,000. Take it as you will.
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/189706-nintendo-switch/78344348A lone news article claims that XY cost $10-$20,000,000. Game Freak had 80 employees at the time.
http://gimmegimmegames.com/2013/10/game-freak-needed-20-developers-make-pokemon-x-y/Lastly, we KNOW it sold 18,220,000 million units; you know this better than anyone.
https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/finance/software/index.htmlSo what does this mean? These numbers give us just enough room to make conjecture on the budget of Pokemon Sword and Shield and the profit Game Freak has made on it. Let’s say that SWSH cost $30,000,000 to develop, and that’s being generous. It took them roughly 3 years of development time with around 200 employees. Additionally, Game Freak’s staff was divided on 3 different projects (Little Town Hero, Pokemon LGPE, and Pokemon SWSH). We don’t know if XY’s supposed budget accounts for any outsourced work, but for the sake of this example, let’s say that it does include it.
