>>53288234The Future forms aren't awful (aside from Thorns, Moth, and Jugulis being the most bare-bones executions of their base mons in the future possible), but a lot more thought went into how to make the Past forms cohesive with each other than the future forms desu. The Future forms all become robots and gain some sort of black patterning, whereas the past forms gain yellow eyes and some sort of tail. With the past forms they got creative with these, Flutter Mane got it's eye color inverted because the base mons already had yellow eyes, and Scream Tail simple got yellow pupils rather than sclera. Roaring moon also got new red pupils to complement the yellow sclera, too. The tails are really where is became apparent that the Past forms had to get more creative though, because it manifests on a different ay among most of them. Brute Bonnet gains a small tail with a spinosaurus-esque crest, Slither Wing makes a tail of Volcarona's already existing thorax details, Flutter Mane gains a stumpier "tail" at the back of it's head in lieu of having the flowing details on the face be the main focus, Scream Tail gains a small tail on TOP of the namesake of it's enlarged ponytail, and Sandy Shock gains a fucking ponytail made out of screws and topped off with magnetic sand. The most basic application of this trait was Great Tusk and Roaring Moon, where their base forms already had tails, so they were largely just enlongated here.
Compare this to the future forms. The most imaginative Black Patterning gets is where it's placed, and even then for over half of them it's just slapped on the midsection/torso. And the trait of them all becoming metallic was also handled subpar, because they all became metallic to the same degree (as in, their entire bodies). How fucking cool would it have been to have a cyborg Hydreigon with it's two smaller heads replaced with head-cannons? Maybe Hands could've been a mon in a sort of super suit that had the floating hands magnetized to that.
