Remember that they did add a hard mode once, one that sure had a retarded way to unlock, sure, but one that greatly improved the game by making it require at least a bit more thought, and then removed it in the following games and completely ignored any question about it existence. They really just want to make Pokemon something as easy and harmless as possible so today's children don't complain about how they couldn't beat a game.
