People asking for open world is exactly what you get when the games have been nothing but handholding and railroading for years now. Not to mention how the regions have been getting smaller as well.
Now if Game Freak continued to have a good balance of story and exploration like in the older titles then people wouldn't be so hungry for an open world game.
