They really did fuck up.

Tierno should have been your battle rival with his smogon (rain) dance team from the anime.

The game should have had contests and Shauna should have been your rival there.

Trevor could have at least handled dex rewards, or even your rival in a bug catching type contest.

Calem/Serena needed more personality. They weren't dicks, spastics or underdogs like the others, they were just bland.

Hopefully the remakes flesh them out more.

It was a fun arc with some cool battles and character studies, and it established them as rivals for future episodes. Dancing Squirtle was GOAT, too.

I enjoyed it a lot, actually, but I'm glad it was only four episodes.

Ash did rethink the rhythm approach. It didn't work when he was just straight up copying Tierno with Hawlucha. Instead he used the idea of momentum to maintain a flow of actions, like when pikachu quick attacked into an electro ball, or backflipped off an iron tail into a thunderbolt.
