This is 2nd grade logic: appealing to more people guarantees more sales. If you make the existing, large fanbase hype, then other people will want to join in. I'm not saying "I only want this game to appeal to me!", I'm saying if it appealed to the already existing fanbase as well, it would be received better and would probably get better sales.
