As an example Misty had to carry all the roles of the girl in the group, the mother figure, the fashionista girl, the tough girl, and the romantic interest (Debatable all). And while this would help give the character three-dimensionality, it was so poorly handled, that at times she seemed like three different characters, depending on the episode director in charge.
With the Alola trio this load is shared, we have the head or mother of the group (the wife), the independent action girl (The seductress), and the innocent and codependent (The child).
