Take Nidoking for instance, who's Poison/Ground, why is it possible for him to take super-effective damage from Earthquake, a move which he himself can dish out at relatively high power?
Consider this from an out-of-battle point of view too, will Nidoking take damage if he goes underground to do fuck whatever? Digging? I don't know.
