People irl, even close friends, are all extremely hostile to one another 99.9% of the time; whether that hostility manifests via subtle micro-aggressions, or is as obvious as a simple punch to the face. All the escapist entertainment media we once had has been infected by agenda-driven politics and the concept of "relatability". Escapism in entertainment IS essentially dead; the shortcomings of RL are constantly shoved in your face no matter where you go. Pokemon was one of the final escapist bastions left but with Gens 5~8 we saw just how much it was influenced by the trends of the modern era.
