I stopped playing new Pokémon games after Sun & Moon and had completely given up on the franchise, but a few weeks ago I started playing PLA and I'm in love with it. It's the kind of Pokémon game I always wanted but had long given up hoping for.
It's refreshing, it's fun, it's atmospheric, it does a lot of things right that none of the other games managed. It finally actualises much of the hitherto wasted potential of Pokémon.
There are things to criticise (especially the awful nighttime lighting) but they aren't enough to diminish how much I'm enjoying almost every aspect and moment of the game. Surprised it doesn't get talked about more.
