There are venemous shrews, one of the very few mammals that are, but as far as we are aware it's name is entirely the product of localization efforts. Pangolins, on the other hand, are for certain the inspiration intended behind this line, but they aren't poisonous or venomous.
I am not really bothered that it doesn't get Spike Canon or Pin Missile. What DOES peeve me off that it doesn't have access to Spiky Shield. Sure in Gen 6 it was first Chepin's unique move as a spiky little chesnut, and then in ORAS it was given to the cactus Pokemon and that's fine, it's a Grass move, they want it to be keep it exclusive to Grass-types. Then in Gen 7 they gave it too... Togedemaru. Yes, little confetti-spiked Togedemaru. Sandslash deserves this move. It's an embodiment of it's design gimmick - curling up in a spiky ball to defend itself from attackers. Now that Togedemaru has it, there is absolutely ZERO reason why Sandslash should not get it.
