I beat Byron. I was actually pretty worried about this gym. I grinded Shadowfax and Snake up to 39 for it and taught grass knot to Tort. It may have been unnecessary. Shadowfax one shot magnaton with fire blast Snake one shot Steelix with aura sphere Tort one shot Bastiodon with earthquake. A level 40 Scizor gave me the most trouble almost killed Nix.
Fight was disappointing desu It's annoying that gyms only have 3 mons would prefer if they had 6 decent ones. Like Renegade but with a Sinnoh dex and less difficult.
I think even if I wipe I'm okay I have a lot of decent Pokemon in my box. I dunno we will see.
Also friendship evolutions are much faster and easier to get than I remember.
