I can actually answer that. My sister and I grew up playing Diamond & Pearl obessively. She never played anything after gen 4. I continued with my pokemon obsession well into the present. One day out of the blue she tells me she really wants to play Diamond & Pearl again and that she bought arceus and disliked it because it wasn't anything like Diamond and Pearl. I told her arcues was a spinoff and that the original games cost a fortune nowadays so she should check out bdsp (even though I never played them.) She got the game and loved it. She specifically said she loved how all your pokemon get exp even if you didn't use them and she also LOVED the chibi style. I tried to get her back into the series and showed her Kalos and Alola, but she said she didn't like how they looked because "It's not the same." I think arceus made her distrust all gen 6+ games even though I tried to explain that arceus wasn't a mainline.
Anyway I got bdsp because of her and I'm playing it now. It's alright. I was fuming upon reveal of the game though.
