I know it was after the shiny rate buff, but I bought my cousin Moon and a 3DS a few years ago for Christmas. He had never played Pokemon before so I was showing him how to play. Kid grabbed his starter, got some pokeballs and walked into the grass where I was gonna help him catch something. The very first wild Pokemon this fucking kid ever saw was a shiny Alolan Rattata, so I grabbed the 3DS from him and had to tutorialize him on shinies as literally the first battle info he ever got. Little dude traded it to me as thanks for the game and console.
