Easily one of my top favorite Pokemon since the first time playing Crystal as a kid. Porygon2, Gligar, Skarmory and Steelix are good too.

Childhood favorite, but for something that never gets discussion or mention, it's also never brought up in the forgettable Pokemon threads. Maybe it truly is forgotten even in those threads. I've seen some fans of it here and there on /vp/ however so maybe I'm just downplaying how memorable it is.

I honestly don't really like how Alolan forms invalidate the original. They might as well be new Pokemon altogether while the original Pokemon that you grew to love stays as shitty as ever.

One of the more unique Water types back in GSC. First saw Chinchou in Pokemon Stadium 2 and thought it was cool, then when I fished one in GSC and evolved it it became an instant favorite. One of the reasons I tend to use Cyndaquil over Totodile in Johto games really despite being a Waterfag.

Anything whose largest stat is HP will more easily benefit from the Mega stat boost unless they dump it all in a useless offensive stat or speed. If Lanturn gets a Mega, it could easily become one of the bulkier Water Pokemon.

Surprisingly good at taking hits despite those stats. Always had Lanturn among my high favorites but since I only started battling online this gen I kind of thought it would've fared terribly. It doesn't have the Earthquake immunity, Will o' Wisp or higher offenses/speed like Rotom-W but Heal Bell, Scald, Ice Beam and especially Volt Absorb for handling things like Thundurus, Zapdos, Rotom-W and Mega Manectric carve a decent niche for it.

- Handles threats like Greninja, Talonflame and Rotom-W pretty well
- Pretty nice movepool for annoyer, sponge and cleric sets

Cons
- No recovery
- Poor offensive stats
- Earthquake
- Rotom-W performs many of its role better aside from some niches

I always run it on my teams though and it's been one of the most reliable members on the team.

My current Calm Lanturn has been serving me very well, but I want to try a new one with Soak. My current one is defensive and it has been great at taking hits, but how is offensive Modest Lanturn? Soak works well for both offensive and defensive sets since it removes STAB and gives the enemy a weakness to Lanturn's own STAB. Planning to run Soak, Thunderbolt/Discharge, Amnesia/Stockpile and Confuse Ray maybe.
