you have to read rgby to know what's happening in gsc, and you need to read rgb to know what's happening in y, but the story of all 3 of those arcs close within their own arc
technically you need to read every single arc before emerald to understand what happens (grand total of 5378 pages), because unlike in later parts where there are only small nods/references to previous arcs, every character shows up in emerald
in dppt its the same 3 dexholders throughout 11 successive volumes, and the difference between dp and pt is so minor it might as well not exist
the story of bw isn't resolved in its own arc, and b2w2 is the same region with the same villains, but they introduce 2 new mcs who take the focus off of black and white
i would agree with bw+b2w2 being the longest but it comes at the cost of bw beginning in late 2010 and b2w2 finishing serializing in early 2020 (black was locked in the light stone for like 4 years and 10 months)
