The majority of the fanbase is full of new fans adn ultra-casuals who understandably either haven't played or know nothing about Gen 2 or Johto outside of second hand into, especially since Johto is the second older region but doesn't getting constant shilling privileges like Kanto does. Even HGSS may be a bit obscure for the average fan due to being over a decade old. This makes it easy for new fans (and even older fans who haven't played a Johto game in a while) to be gaslit by trolls and shills who exaggerate Johto's flaws and erase Johto's positive aspects to deflect from the flaws of newer games. Its no continue that the rabid Johto-hate popped up around the time long-time fans were rightly criticizing Gen 8 many glaring flaws.
Anyone can disagree, but no matter of gaslighting or revisionism can change how Game Freak did everything they could do put in as much effort and content into the Johto games as possible, how revolutionary GSC was, and how HGSS is still considered by many fans to be the golden standard for remakes.
