>>33770103This raises a bunch of ethical questions, which would make for a thought-provoking story. By having humans as a less dominant species, one challenge is being mindful of the central conflict, lest it turn into Humans versus Pokes 2: Electric Boogaloo. Though I don’t think you would fall into that snare.
Honestly, you might not have to pretend too much when depicting a world where humans are just another species. A crafty psychic could manipulate a human into capturing a fellow Pokémon, among other things. While dark types have a reputation for being deceptive, sneaky lil' devils, psychics can be extremely conniving through sheer control.
Say psychics become the dominant species. What about their motivations? They might involve what you said about seeing themselves as higher beings, as a shepherd to lesser minds. Or they can be a result of a very calculated, pragmatic cost-benefit analysis, where overriding another species' free will is simply in their best interests. Whatever the reason, how might it be justified? How would it be unjustified? Your characters will advance these outlooks with their various perspectives.
Ironically, if a cabal of psychics is trying to take over the world, a dark type could be the one who saves the day.
