He'll always be Silver to me, since I began with Silver and that was his default name.
The default name for the rival in Silver is Gold, so I refer to him as such.
It makes for a more interesting story. Gold was the son of a criminal, and lacked direction. Through his rivalry with Silver and his friendship with Totodile, he changes a lot as a person and learns to deal with his father issues.
Makes the scene where he attempts to return his stater and Elm lets him keep him much more meaningful.
I know that's not "canon" but those are the events I experienced in my universe.
