Colloseum/XD just took out a bunch of features that make Pokemon what it is in order to make it balanced and designed closer to the traditional JRPGs of its era. It didn't work too well, which is why it only had OK reviews, didn't sell amazingly, and hasn't had any new games in the series yet.
If you liked the changes, you should play one of the games I mentioned, to see what quality of game you can get when it's built entirely around those design changes
