The middle stage doesn't really particularly stand out too well given that it has same colour scheme as the first stage, along with the having a body type that's similar to the final and the first stage, although the wool isn't as much as the final does have. But if it was more fuller, then it'd definitely look like the final stage but not as gray.
Which kinda leads to the middle stage not having much of a identity, compared to the first and final stages due to sharing too much of similar features from both. And it sorta leads the middle stage being forgettable and something that you can easily throw out as the players look to the cooler final form.
What I would recommend is just giving the middle stage a something to it's design that would make stand out on it's own well enough.
