I played that shit in my diapers. But I knew Pokemon existed because our after school program for kids with working parents had VHS tapes of the anime series and drawing books about pokemon. Also, one of my dad's coworkers gave him a little Charmander figure because he didn't know what it was (my dad didn't know either until later when my bro told him).
Anyways, one Christmas (around the time the Diamond and Pearl were released, I believe), I got both Firered AND Leafgreen for the GBA. I had a GBA SP though I forget if I had it before or got it during this Christmas. And I don't even remember the wireless adapter being in the cases at all. I also got a DS sometime around that time period too. I was retarded though and decided to trade Firered to my big brother for a McDonald's Darkrai TCG deck holder which I brought to school one day for show and tell (it broke a while later).
My big brother actually got both Diamond and Pearl that Christmas I believe, and he must've felt bad for scamming me because he let me "borrow" Pearl for an indefinite amount of time.
I'm still hazy about the details so this isn't the full, 100% truth, but it's the most I can remember. I just don't remember the specific time periods. It's been a long ass time, goddammn. Miss those days.
