You gave me an idea about Hoenn. Hoenn could have fought for generation to keep its independence and ways from the powers above and when the great war broke out they tried their best to stay out of it.
Kalos, Paldea and Galar all hate each other i can see that.
Unova since the twin hero civil war and AZ super weapon left the region lawless and decimated until "recently" about 400 years ago beginning as a mixture of US and Australia. Either being a refuge or a dumping ground for the "unwanted" from all the other regions. Overtime Unova got grow due to hard work and the other region begin see it as a prices to be taking. Being the first "Nation" to form due being constantly invaded, subverted, someone trying to take it over, etc. Unova has stayed isolation until till recently as a Manifest destiny fever takes the nation and those in the government wanting more of a international present in the world.
Ahola could be the Elsass-Lothringen of the pokemon world where everyone constantly fight over the island chain due to it military and economic important begins the half way point between the major Continents. So the island switching ever generations and they just got their independence recently.
Orre could be the wild west as the region has nothing of note, but Unova is eyeing the region.
